Type catalog: Ibarra & Stewart 1987:15 [ref. 12367]. •Valid as Bathypterois pectoralis Garman 1899 -- (Pequeño 1989:34 [ref. 14125]). •Synonym of Bathypterois atricolor Alcock 1896 -- (Sulak 1990:353 [ref. 15106]). Current status: Synonym of Bathypterois atricolor Alcock 1896. Ipnopidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific. Habitat: marine.

Syntypes: MCZ 28506 (4) station 3418, 28507 (4) station 3425; CAS-SU 22964 (1) station 3425; USNM 57887 (1) station 3418. •Valid as Bathypterois ventralis Garman 1899 -- (Sulak 1977:87 [ref. 4299], Pequeño 1997:81 [ref. 23536], Hutchins 2001:21 [ref. 25847], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:252 [ref. 28944], Paxton et al. 2006:486 [ref. 28996], Robertson et al. 2017:47 [ref. 35676], Love et al. 2021:65 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:90 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Bathypterois ventralis Garman 1899. Ipnopidae. Distribution: Southeastern Indian Ocean: off Australia; eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to Chile. Habitat: marine.
